Re: Who's working on Christmas day?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-24 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
My work was established and originally staffed by Russian Jews serving a Russian Jewish clientele, so we always work Christmas. When the business got bought by a super-WASPy guy that does not have any clue what he's doing or who works for him, he actually tried to take away New Year's Day vacation. We literally are open every single weekday in a year except New Year's and for no extra pay. Took some nerve of him. Like, "oh, these people don't care about national holidays so I don't have to pay them and hell why not make them work even more?"

Anyway, the staff put their feet down, so we get the one day off. But part of the staff and clientele is now christian or secular, so on Christmas we Jews pretty much spend the day covering so our coworkers can catch a break. I actually had to tell one new girl to take the day off and we'll sign her in. It's not like the boss'll be there.

*is bitter*
