For the record, I am well aware how narcissitic it is to ask this, BUT...

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2013-12-25 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
For those of you who've seen me around here or other fandom places, what's your impression of me? And for those of you who have heard about me, what have you heard?

I know this is a self-centered thing to ask, but I don't really pay too much attention to my reputation, so I've been quite surprised when I've run into a lot of people recently who've already heard of me, remember me from other fandoms and communities, or have an opinion of me that isn't an immediate response to the discussion/topic at hand.

So now I'm curious. What do you guys think of me?

I don't know that I'd ever really noticed you before, but this post isn't a very good first impression!

*shrugs* Sorry? I just figured asking would be easier and less creepy than trying to sneak around and manipulate that kind of information/people's impressions of me out of people.

I think you wrote something for Merlin BBC that I wanted to read (a Merlin tells Morgana about his magic fix-it thing?) but I got distracted by Merlin/Arthur and Gwaine (the lack of Gwaine fic is distressing and I shall rectify it).

That's pretty much it.

Well I've got plenty of Merlin/Arthur and some Merlin/Arthur/Gwaine floating around somewhere...I remember planning a Merlin-tells-Morgana fic (that somehow mutated into a season-long almost-darkfic that went through a ridiculous permutation of pairings and politics). Don't think I ever got around to writing it, though.

ETA: Wait, no, I did write a Merlin-tells-Morgana fix-it fic waaaaay back in like, Season 2 I think. It even got a sequel. (Both found here). But it wasn't the elaborate S3-one I planned. o.O

Welp, I think everyone should post one of these. I;ll wait patiently for SJW anon.

For the record, I recognize the icon/name but can't put a particular comment to it.

Even speaking as someone who regularly complains about and analyzes SJWs, I'm curious as to what about my post would be offensive to them.

And, thank you. Good to know these things. :)

I'd never really noticed you before either. Or did you change your user icon recently? I remember/notice users by those primarily. I only take note of usernames if they're really active.

Uh, I've had this icon for a few months, by now, and before that it was a very old picture of me in a gray hat, and before that it was...I'm not sure. o.O I'm quite similar, actually, in that I tend to focus on icons rather than usernames. (People using their icons like reaction shots on LJ drove me nuts, I see it MUCH less here).

I sort of recognize your username but the only thing I know about you is that an anon a couple of days ago said that you usually post stupid comments so I guess my secondhand impression of you is that you post dumb comments. I can't remember why they're supposed to be dumb though

sa

Now that I think about it, that comment might have been said about someone else whose username starts with an "n", so I might not know anything at all about you. Ugh, now I'll have to search for that comment or it will drive me crazy

You seem to be verbose, wordy, thoughtful, although I find that I often disagree with you. Which isn't a bad thing really, but we do seem to have different perspectives. That's about it really - don't know you from any other fandom places.

I saw you in a comment thread yesterday about ONTD and that's it I'm afraid. I have no idea who you could be and don't think anything in particular about you. :S

You're pretty friendly and verbose with your opinions.

I don't have vivid and specific memories, but my general associations are good; seeing your username provokes a vaguely positive feeling of recognition and the sense that I'm interacting with "one of the good ones." Does that help?

You tend to write long entries in response to secrets, most of whom if I don't exactly agree with are well thought out and written in a readable manner.

Also I don't think we have ever had an disagreement, or that I have seen you be unnecessarily mean.

damn now I am wondering what people think of me...

...Um, I can't say you've really registered on my radar, but in fairness I'm a bit oblivious. The few times you've had....it hasn't been good? But generally because we were on opposite sides of the issue that we were arguing so it was a bit slanted.

Annoyance that you seem to expect people to take special note of you and make thread about it. What a bland christmas eve topic.

Hmmm. You have an icon that looks like a glass rose, you're generally pretty soft-spoken and gentle and thoughtful. That's about it really. :)

You have a tendency to be obnoxious and OCCASIONALLY very narrow-minded, and seem to find it impossible to (or just don't) put yourself in other people's shoes or imagine different life experiences, sometimes with insulting or patronizing results. Your insistence on putting a subject line on every comment you write has the unfortunate effect of making you (and all your opinions, of which you have many) seem overexposed.

On the other hand? You are incredibly kind, helpful, thoughtful, and intelligent. Your opinions are almost always very mature and clever, not to mention creative and different from the other commenters, while also being logical and written logically. Your comments are more often than not some of the most well-thought-out, well-written, insightful, and reasonable ones in the entire thread. You have an amazing ability to show broad perspective and nuance in your opinions. You never fail to give sincere, compassionate advice to depressed or worried anons in the GC section, and that advice is always, as far as I can recall, aimed at helping them, never at stroking your ego.

In short, you are a person who doesn't make a fuss about suppressing or softening the characteristics of your personality, good traits or bad, and your good traits vastly outweigh the bad.

(Also, you just reminded me that I got into an argument with you a couple days ago and got distracted and totally forgot to follow up on that argument, like a douche. So sorry!)

You're actually one of my favorite members here. You can eloquently talk about social activist issues without coming across as a SJW. So overall, I like your lengthy posts. You have a lot of thoughts you want to share with us, and you do it in a really polite manner. :)

You're better than average. Not one of my favourite people (I haven't seen or remembered enough of your personality to say that) but when I take over fandom secret and start removing the undesirables, you'll be allowed to stay.

You're one of my favourite people because we have similar viewpoints. I like how detailed and thoughtful your comments are and usually you point out something I overlooked or put into words a thought or feeling I couldn't articulate. Also, I really liked your old icon because it had a brilliant hat in it and that's how I first noticed you.

That you're apparently narcissistic.

But then, I don't know anything about you.
