Re: For the record, I am well aware how narcissitic it is to ask this, BUT...

You have a tendency to be obnoxious and OCCASIONALLY very narrow-minded, and seem to find it impossible to (or just don't) put yourself in other people's shoes or imagine different life experiences, sometimes with insulting or patronizing results. Your insistence on putting a subject line on every comment you write has the unfortunate effect of making you (and all your opinions, of which you have many) seem overexposed.

On the other hand? You are incredibly kind, helpful, thoughtful, and intelligent. Your opinions are almost always very mature and clever, not to mention creative and different from the other commenters, while also being logical and written logically. Your comments are more often than not some of the most well-thought-out, well-written, insightful, and reasonable ones in the entire thread. You have an amazing ability to show broad perspective and nuance in your opinions. You never fail to give sincere, compassionate advice to depressed or worried anons in the GC section, and that advice is always, as far as I can recall, aimed at helping them, never at stroking your ego.

In short, you are a person who doesn't make a fuss about suppressing or softening the characteristics of your personality, good traits or bad, and your good traits vastly outweigh the bad.

(Also, you just reminded me that I got into an argument with you a couple days ago and got distracted and totally forgot to follow up on that argument, like a douche. So sorry!)

Speaking as the subject of that analysis, I say go ahead and ask her to do you. No pun intended. Quite invigorating to read, and definitely something I learned from. :)

I know. If I got that comment I would be so damn proud I would print it out and be like "Look at this comment I got. I am a fully developed protagonist now!" but I'm scared the best I would get is something like: occasionally annoying, mostly harmless, abuses punctuation.

Probably not. I've seen you around, and while I'm not so good at pinning other people (mostly because I have a tendency to pay more attention to icon than username, though I'm trying to shake myself out of that habit), what I immediately recall of you is someone nice but firm and good to talk to. And you abuse punctuation much less than most. ;)

*_* I am not being facetious when I say I think "nice but firm" is the best compliment I have ever received. Those words are pretty much what I aspire to and to have someone else describe me by them makes me wonder if Santa finally decided this was the year to bring me my first Christmas present. (The 'good to talk to' was an excellent bonus as well)

Well it's true, so I'm glad to hear they're traits you appreciate in yourself. Keep it up! :)

But I AM stroking my ego! :P

Anyway, I hope no one is surprised by me saying this, but thank you, sincerely, for all of this. :)

I do hope to get better about my less pleasant traits, and I will try to be less narrow-minded and patronizing. And if I'm being so, I hope you will (continue to) call me out on it. I may not necessarily agree with you on all cases but I certainly appreciate the heads up and will try to get better about it. :)

I'm probably not going to quit with the subject lines, mostly because they make managing the e-mail alerts and staying on top of a thread so much easier than if everything's subject line is {No Subject} and thus they all get collated together in my inbox. Sorry. :(

And, of course, I am also glad to hear that I have good traits and that they are enough to outweigh the bad. :)

Again, thanks for taking the time to tell me all of this. ♥

Ah, so that's what the subject lines are for! I never quite understood. That makes things a lot clearer. :)

No problem! Looking at the other comments, I now feel a little weird and creepy for doing something so detailed, but I just for some reason always remember a lot of details about all the regular non-anon users. I guess I'm used to smaller comms where we were supposed to know and recognize everyone.

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2013-12-25 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, not going to pretend it's purely for that - while the majority of the reason is due to e-mail management on the basis of subject lines (no paid account and no thread tracking), I do enjoy having a pithy 'intro' to my comments/posts here that are separate from my main comments. :)

It's fine. I love detailed analyses, on my fics and on myself. ^_^ And I can attach a lot of impressions to an icon, but I'm not always good at remembering to focus on the username instead of the icon. I'm really glad to hear all this from you, and I don't find it creepy at all - just a sign that you have fantastic memory. :)

Not trying to be a dick here, I promise, but that is pretty much my impression of you not including the subject line thing.

Re: For the record, I am well aware how narcissitic it is to ask this, BUT...

[personal profile] intrigueing 2013-12-25 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay? Why exactly would I think that's being a dick? I thought my comment was more complimentary than not, so I'd say that if you think the same thing about me, that's pretty flattering. (I'd actually say I'm a lot ruder and far more prone to making snide or mocking comments than nyx, and I do it intentionally.)

I gotta say though, being unable to put myself in other people's shoes is one thing I've never, ever been accused of before in my entire life in any way shape or form, online or off, so I'd be rather obliged to you if you can give me some examples of that, so that I can improve on it :)

Re: For the record, I am well aware how narcissitic it is to ask this, BUT...

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2013-12-26 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I definitely took it as ultimately more complimentary. :) And I usually try to avoid being snide or mocking, though it still happens quite a bit once my patience runs thin.

Though interestingly enough, you're actually the first person to tell me that I'm unable to put myself in other people's shoes. In fact, people usually compliment me on my ability to see things from another perspective.
