My guess is that Penny does have a lot of potential for certain careers, like advertising or event planning or something that would use her skills a little more efficiently than acting. And if she decided to go out and do this, and Leonard supported her and helped her in these goals, people wouldn't have a problem with it.

But guess what? Some people DON'T feel the need to have an intensely intellectually-stimulating job, or learn a huge amount of facts about a variety of subjects. And that is not a reason to "ridicule" them for being stupid. They may not be YOUR values or strengths, but no one is asking you to be friends with or date them. It is, in fact, okay for someone to be uninterested in your interests. My guess is that Penny knows a lot more about animal husbandry and applied genetic selection in beef cattle than you do. She didn't enjoy doing it, so she moved on and tried to find her own place. Get a little perspective before you leave high school honey.

You're absolutely correct, not everyone requires an intellectually stimulating job and that's fine. But is Penny okay with being a waitress and unemployed actress for the long haul? Her comments and attitude suggest that no, she isn't happy with this situation and it's NOT to her satisfaction, so your argument isn't applicable here.

When someone has goals that are beyond what their current status is but doesn't put forth much effort to work toward those goals, that's their choice... but let's not act like this decision is a smart one.

Penny may not be content in her job, but she's really not doing anything about it, for whatever reason. Maybe she feels like she can't leave her rather dead-end job to find something new or go back to school. (Hello I can relate to that!) Until she decides that she wants to commit her self to doing that, it's really not the place of anyone in her life to be passive-aggressive and emotionally manipulative to get her to fit THEIR idea of what she should be doing. To be clear, fans have every right to criticize that - she's a fictional character and we don't have to be friends with her. However, writing her boyfriend treating her poorly ( this applies to all the bbt boys) and it bein socially acceptable is a little fucked up.

TL;DR: Not working towards your ambition is not only a
