Transcript of Not Secret 1 - Naruto fandom?

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-27 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a fanart of a grown-up Naruto from the manga and anime of the same name. It shows him wearing an open shirt and standing on a pond. He is a young man with light olive skin, short, spiky blond hair and a tattoo of a spiral with pointy things around it around his navel.]

This artist is waaaay overrated. Weird faces, strange anatomy, ugly hands, weak shading style. But try telling that to his fans.

Also? The only reason his girlfriend is popular is by association. She seems to think it's because of her ~excellent~ writing.

It seems the fanart is titled "Frog Prince" and was drawn by the artist "zombieskully" on DeviantART, but it's "in storage" and thus unavailable for viewing.

Hey, thanks for that extra bit of info. You really do go above and beyond, don't you? Thanks!

Also, that bit of info suggests a couple of things:

1. It's likely that The Frog Prince is an older work, and not necessarily an example of the artists current overall quality. Probably this picture was chosen to illustrate the OP's point, regardless of how old it may be.

2. This also raises the question of where the OP got this picture. Of course it's entirely possible that zombieskully placed the image in storage after this secret was made. Something of a coincidence but not impossible. There are a number of other possibilities, but I would suggest that OP already had this image saved on their hard drive in order to revel in their hate.

I don't know why this is not a secret.

Is it the wording?

It's stated as fact instead of an opinion.

I don't know who that artist is or why they'd be considered overrated, but that pic does look a bit weird. Not terrible, but not the best.

I thought the background was rather good, if simple. But I can't draw backgrounds for shit, so maybe I'm easily impressed.

I have seen a hell of a lot worse, that's for sure. To each their own.

I'm always pretty baffled when people say things like, "[Thing] is overrated, but try telling [thing]'s fans!"
Well, duh? Presumably if they're fans, they are fairly likely to disagree with such a statement. All you're really saying there is, "People like a thing I don't like! They shouldn't like it!"

I think they meant the kind of fans that will not tolerate any sort of criticism of what they're a fan of, which is obnoxious. People should be able to accept that others will hate what they like and not give them shit for it.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-27 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I absolutely cannot stand those kinds of fans. Ugh.
