It's a pretty damn popular show. The premiere of this season drew around 14 million viewers.

I weep for my country.

Aryt

Mind if I join you? It boggles my mind why this family and show is so popular.

Modern day equivalent of circus freakshows?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-28 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
That's probably it for some people but a lot of people seem to genuinely like them.

A lot of people miss having a supportive family. They miss "the good ol' days." This show gives them hope there are still old fashioned values alive in the country. I've not seen the show myself and have no desire to, but that is what I've been hearing.

Whenever I visit family in the South and stop by a Wal-Mart, they are full of Duck Dynasty merchandise. Shirts, mugs, fleece throws, towels - who buys all of this? There's clearly a market for it.

Distressingly enough, it's not just the South. I'm in northern Missouri and there was some in a Hallmark store the other day.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-28 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
Missouri is South. It's just not deep South until you hit the Ozarks.

Let me break it down to you as someone who lives in the deep South (albeit in a very liberal area IN the deep South): Missouri is not South. At all. It will never be considered South. Arkansas is questionable, even though it has some of the most redneck-y people I've ever met in my life.

I spotted Duck Dynasty stuff all over New York. It's a popular show, regardless of location.

Illinois can't be called south but it's all over there too.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-28 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

I think it's a rural/conservative thing, not a South thing. It's just that the South is the utmost of those two things in this country.
