Eh, as far as I'm concerned, "canon" is the material itself. I'm not really concerned with Word of God or anything. So unless the character - not the actor - is clear about their sexuality (verbally in a way that aligns with their actions) I'm going to assume there's a possibility for bisexuality. it's not canon, no, but it also wouldn't be "canon" that the character is 100% straight.

I don't have a horse in this race, but I do think only the material itself is canon, and that characters don't have to be specifically gay to possibly be gay (or bi).

I don't really understand if that's what the post was about, though, you weren't really clear in your first paragraph...
