Shinji is fucking adorable and I love it when fans act as if they'd react any differently if they were in his situation. They're all talk and would most likely piss down both legs if they had to fight an Angel.

THIIIIIIIIIIIIS, oh my fuck. So he's whiny? WHY DOES THAT MATTER? He's depressed, and lonely, and HE STILL MANAGES TO DO WHAT HE MUST DO. He absolutely loathes it! But he GETS SHIT DONE despite being terribly broken inside, and getting worse and worse as the series progresses - only to be healed by the ending; AND DON'T YOU DARE TO TALK SHIT TO ME ABOUT THE ANIME ENDING OK, I love that goddamn psychobabbling philosophical mess that ends up with Shinji realizing he's worthy of being loved and things can get better, and damn, CONGRATS SHINJI BECAUSE YOU DESERVE IT!

... oh god I'm sorry. I just have the most intense Shinji feelings. I love him so much, and it's terrible how I can relate sometimes :(

My thoughts exactly. He's fourteen and plenty of good reasons for being "whiny". His father is a fucking asshole and treats him like shit, and he's expected to pilot a mecha and fight these terrifying fucking creatures. I don't fucking blamed him for being the way he is. Kid deserves alk the fucking hugs. All of them and more.

Don't apologize. There's no need for it and if you want to share your Shinji feelings then I'm ready to listen. Though it has been years since I've seen Evangelion so I might be the best to habe a conversation with. Plus, I totally understand. I feel the same way about a lot of my favorite characters. A few in particular.

He's not my favorite (Misato and Ritsuko are my favorites for NGE) but I FUCKING LOVE SHINJI and I think he's one of the absolute best anime protags ever. I am of the belief that anyone who hates Shinji can't possibly understand his character/the show because he's perfect and his arc is perfect and he works in exactly the way the creators intended.
