(Anonymous) 2013-12-28 07:37 am (UTC)(link)There are some problems I have with the other LIs, but for the most part, they stand out as their own character and serve a purpose in the plot, even if their story revolves around a dude.
Pepper took down the villain that abducted her, using the power from the experiment he forced on her against him, not to mention calling Tony out on his shit for years and earning position of CEO of Stark Industries. Betty was another science chick that was mostly defined by her relationship, but IDK, I remember liking her, and she was also necessary to the plot, being Bruce's only anchor to humanity. Peggy wasn't very likable, but AT LEAST SHE ACTUALLY DID SOMETHING THAT DID NOT INVOLVE GETTING KIDNAPPED. She took out 7+ guys and finished the zodiac mission on her own, helped Steve rescue the war prisoners, and even though I may not have liked her, she had a clear personality that stood out.
Meanwhile, Jane... liked science? She was in love with space or something. She hit Thor with her car and gave him a brush up on how to act like a human, took less than a week to fall in love with the dude she knows barely anything about, and... that was about it for the first movie?
And The Dark World was even worse. She spent over half of that movie being possessed by the Aether, causing everyone to have a tug-o-war over her like she's an object. Then she found a way out the cave she and Thor were stuck in. On accident. And I guess she does some science stuff at the end that somehow saves the world, but did it have to be HER that did it? Dr. Selvig was standing RIGHT THERE. I honest to god believe that you could erase Jane from existence and all you'd lose is some bullshit love story that wasn't believable anyway. (You'd also have to find another girl to serve as the thing everybody fights over in Thor 2, because it'd be just silly for an actual object to take that role.)
I would prefer that none of the female characters are fridged for the sake of man-pain, and I'd die for more interesting female characters in general, but anything that would get Jane and her awful romance with Thor off my screen is okay in my book.
(And before anyone starts, this has jackshit to do with shipping. I don't ship Thor with anyone. Not Loki, not Sif, not whothehellever. I spent so much time during both Thor movies being frustrated with the romance shoved into my face, there's no way I could even think about Thor being with any of the other characters.)

(Anonymous) 2013-12-29 02:17 am (UTC)(link)(I am referring to the scene where she shot at Steve's shield FOUR times to "make sure it worked", not caring that she could have hurt him because she'd just seen another girl flirting with him a few minutes ago. That shit is just not okay in my book.)
(Another thing that made me dislike Jane was when, after waiting for years to see her LI again, the first thing she decides to do when he shows up is punch him in the face. TWICE. That's okay, as long as your violence doesn't cause the person any PHYSICAL damage, feel free to sock them up, maybe go crazy and fire a rocket launcher at them. It's like not like this person could be emotionally hurt by your actions. It's not like female-on-male abuse is an actual RL problem that isn't taken seriously because the tiny girl couldn't possibly harm the big guy in any way. It's not like "strong" female characters are allowed to go around hitting whoever they want without receiving any repercussions for it. Because as long as there aren't any bruises or scars, who cares? "Real abuse" leaves visible marks.)
