My problem with this is that their "evidence" for "canon" gay undertones in their ships is usually a two-second glance that they've turned into a gif and slowed down to make it last twenty seconds. I've watched many shows where fans insist, vehemently, 100% convinced that two characters (who just happen to be their ship, it never happens with, say, two side characters) are blatantly in love, but the canon material just doesn't hold up. To anyone watching as a casual fan (or just someone who isn't over-invested), it's simply not there. And their behavior when it comes to defending their ship can get so downright nasty... it's no wonder people don't take their claims seriously.

I do understand what they're trying to say, but I don't think using OTP "evidence" is a good way to go about their point. (Disclaimer: I have plenty of ships myself, in numerous fandoms, and I'm well aware that this doesn't apply to a lot of fans. It's just that the people who are the loudest and most insistent are also the pushiest, to the extent of being cruel or making people uncomfortable.)
