Secret 7 - Orlando Bloom, Legolas, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-28 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Legolas, as portrayed by Orlando Bloom. He is an elf with pale skin, long blond hair pulled back in a half-ponytail, blue eyes, wearing a silver armor and holding a bow and arrow, ready to shoot.]

I like his new contacts. I mean they look kind of freaky, but I think it's cool. And I kind of love how bitchy he is being in Desolation of Smaug. Unfortunately most people seem to disagree.

And I realize that Orlando Bloom isn't the strongest actor, but seeing people hating on him still makes me really sad. Legolas/Orlando Bloom is too close to my heart not to. [sad face emoticon.] I just really love him.

People are still hating on Orlando Bloom? Dang. I really liked him in the movie, honestly. Different from Legolas' role in the LotR films, but I felt like Orlando Bloom had fun with it.

I did find his face really odd, though. I realize that he's not 24 anymore even though he has to look it for this role and that's why they had to put makeup/airbrush/dark magic on him, but it still looks creepy.

I loved bitchy Legolas, haaated his contacts. It just irks me how his eyes look totally different from how they are in LOTR, but I get how they were trying to make him look younger. The new eyes just make the rest of his face look harsher, so it doesn't really work.

I'm sad that people hate on Orlando, too. He seems like a nice young man, and he's not a bad actor. People are so uptight.

I just want Orlando Bloom to give us more beautiful Leoglas in the background gifs. They are my fav.

Haha, thank you for that. I don't get how anyone could hate the person giving us these faces.

(As for the secret, I think the contacts are kind of hot, but totally unnecessary. The change is odd though, I'll give you that.)

I don't either.

(He did look fine in LotR. Odd they'd make such a cosmetic change four movies in.)

I didn't really like the blue contacts, I know it's a elf thing but I preferred when in LotR they slipped up and his eyes were brown... it looks good with the blond hair IMO.

I don't know why people bash on him because I've always found him suited to the characters he plays. Haters always gonna hate.

He was great in DoS. I loved seeing a more serious and in-command Legolas, because it makes his future in LotR and friendship with Gimli all the more important.

Same. I'm neutral on the contacts, but his role was one of my favorite parts of the movie. He was so princely, and it was really cool to see him with other elves (besides, like, Haldir) and to know where he was going to end up after the trilogy and how much he was going to change. Especially since elves typically don't change as much as other characters.

Elves have gray eyes. GRAY.

Or grey, if you prefer.

EVERYONE in Lotr seems to have gray eyes. Tolkien must have really had a thing for it lol.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-29 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
He had blue contacts in LotR. It just wasn't always obvious depending on the lighting (and also I think sometimes he just didn't have them in).

People are hating on him? Total Grinches, they are.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-29 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
I actually liked the blue eyes in this one. They're still uncanny, but they look more like actual blue eyes, as opposed to the dark-rimmed ones that always look awkward on brown-eyed actors. He and Lady Deathstrike and the girl from Memoirs of a Geisha all had moments of "vacant-eyed goat stare" when those things would slide off-center in close-ups. XD

Agreeing with this secret so hard!

Legolas and the DoS Elves in general are awesome because they are jerks and because they look slightly eerie (Thranduil even more so than his son). They're just so fey, if you know what I'm saying?

I really liked the contacts. It made Legolas and his dad seem a little otherworldly and I thought that was appropriate for Elves. I liked his contacts in LOTR too (when they showed).

I didn't like his eyes, but I did really love him. I was a bit unsure about him being there (well, not being there, because that makes sense, but having a prominent role), but I thought everything they did with his character was so interesting.

This may be fifteen year old me speaking with an old crush from the first Lord of the Rings movie, but I always thought he did a fine job. The Nostalgia Chick said it best in her reviews of the movies - he's not bad, he's just outclassed by the likes of Ian McKellen and Christopher Lee.

And I don't care what you say, the exchange he had with Gloin was perfect.

Well I hate on Legolas because in this movie he is a total asshole and based on LotR I thought he'd be marginally nicer (while I had no such thoughts about Thranduil). Consider it a fond hate.

But even despite my bitching, I'm glad he's there, I'm glad Orlando came back, and I don't mind the contacts. When we got a clear look at his eyes with contacts in LotR, I thought they looked freaky too.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-29 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
But this was before his character development in LOTR. Wouldn't it make sense for him to be an asshole toward the dwarves in The Hobbit?

I guess I did not believe he'd that much of an asshole.

The eyes are disconcerting. But I loved every second of Legolas' screen time.

And if anyone disses Orlando Bloom in front of me, I'll throw them into Mt Doom.
I love that man. I love that man so much.

[personal profile] darth_vader 2013-12-29 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Right there with you, OP. I'll always have a soft spot for him. :)

(Anonymous) 2013-12-29 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
Haven't seen the movie yet, but I expect him to be a jerk in "The Hobbit" and I have absolutely no problem with that. I chalk it up to him being younger, stupider and with less life experience.
