Secret 8 - Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., femslash

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-28 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Jemma Simmons, as portrayed by Elizabeth Henstridge, and Skye, as portrayed by Chloe Bennet, from the TV series "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.". Jemma Simmons has light skin and long brown hair. She is wearing a dark gray suit. Skye has olive skin and long wavy brown hair. She is wearing a dark jacket. They are looking together at a computer screen. Leo Fitz, as portrayed by Ian De Caestecker, is sitting between them, but there is a red heart symbol over his face.]

Part of me is enjoying how popular "Skimmons" is getting because almost none of my femslash ships get this much attention, but I also kind of wish it wasn't so big, and that the actresses weren't involved. They seem to be enjoying the idea but I'm not used to my non-canon ships getting this big.

(I didn't slap the stupid heart on this picture by the way.)

is this pairing really that popular? don't know much about the fandom but I follow the show

I'd probably ship it but I find both characters really bland

I had no idea the pairing was so big. Just enjoy the ride, OP.

I wish May/Simmons was more popular. There's SO damn little of it. Granted, they haven't had much screen-time together so I guess it isn't exactly astounding, but I just reallllllly like the idea of it and think it would be hot. (After that small scene at the end of the first episode I kept hoping they would have more scenes together and it hasn't really happened.)

Wasn't aware that Simmons/Skye was so popular, but the more femslash the better? If the actresses are on board with it that's pretty cool. I can see why it might feel awkward for some people, but if they genuinely enjoy it I don't see the big deal with them mentioning it.

It's definitely more popular than other MCU femmeslash ships, that's for sure. But really... I don't know how much that's saying. :\ I mean we're not talking Stony here but it's definitely got a following.

Yea, of course not, and Steve/Tony already had a following before the films because of their comic counterparts, but Simmons and Skye and totally new so it's a different situation. Plus femmeslash seems less prevalent in fandom in general as far as I'm concerned. I know there are fandoms that are full of it, but SHIELD fandom has seemed pretty scattered so far (people ship a little everything) so I'm not surprised.

"popular" and "big" are really strong words for a pairing that has 31 fics on the AO3. Granted it is the most popular femslash ship for the show, but Fitz/Ward has 52 just because they're standard issue bland white dudes. (And, I suppose, they had that trope-tastic "overnight in a cave" plot that one time...)

It's a brand new fandom. Who knows where it's going to go. Skimmons definitely had a growth spurt and given that it's femmeslash, those aren't bad numbers at all.

It'll be interesting to see if the AoS Big Bang brings out any larger works for them too. I think AoS so far is kind of proving the point of "Give us more than just token female characters and you'll get more femmeslash".

Are there going to be any AOS bigbangs? I haven't heard of any, but I would love to at least follow them, if not join outright (time permitting).

There is one going on right now actually. The sign ups for writers is closing soon but the artist sign ups are open for awhile yet. aos-bigbang.livejournal.com

I am so happy to hear the pairing has a following. I started shipping them but never checked for fic because I didn't really expect there to be much.

*happily heads off to AO3*

I too get wary when actors get involved in their ships. Fingers crossed nothing too awkward happens.
