I'm like that too. I find that protagonists spend so much time having Important Hero Thoughts and Serious Hero Problems that they never get to be goofy weirdos with ordinary problems, so I don't identify with them as much. I also love uncovering secrets, which secondary characters are more likely to be keeping from the audience. In contrast to your secret, though, Phoenix is one of my favorite AA characters, but that's just more reason to love those games IMO.
