Haven't seen DoS yet because it still hasn't been screened here 8(

Ship away, OP, and don't worry. I'm glad you found something to enjoy. I don't like the ship, mainly because I think it kind of cheapens the whole "Legolas and Gimli being the first Elf+Dwarf BFF pair in AGES", and because I don't like when romance is needlessly introduced in a story.

I'm still fully prepared to give Tauriel a chance, because everyone knows Tolkien books, no matter how good they are... are also a complete sausagefest. Which sucks. A warrior lady elf? Bring it on! But I would have loved if Tauriel had just kicked ass and been awesome with no romance subplot :(

That's how I feel. I haven't gotten to see the movie yet so I don't know how they treat the elf-dwarf antagonism bit, but it does take away from how unusual Legolas and Gimli were. I also agree about her romance plot.

Welp, the way I see it, seeing as [SPOILERS FOR THE BOOK IN CASE YOU HAPPEN NOT TO HAVE READ IT] /[end spoilers], it's very likely that their story doesn't have a chance to be told/spread far and wide anyway, so Gimli & Legolas are still seen as the best dwarf/elf friendship in ages bc nothing between Kili and Tauriel gets reported.
