You and me both, OP.

Secret 3 - Kili and Tauriel, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-28 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Tauriel, an elf with pointy ears, a dark green tunic, pale skin and long red hair looking over her shoulder, and Kili, a dwarf with light olive skin, a small mustache and beard and long wavy dark brown hair, wearing dark blue in his cape and tunic. They are characters from the movie "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug".]

Before the movie I had no particular opinion about Kili/Tauriel either way I wasn't ~enraged~ about it like some people were, but I also wasn't particularly excited. But damn, I ship it so hard now after the movie. I even thought parts of their story were ridiculously corny, but whatever. GIMME ALL THE FIC!

Ship away, OP. Personally I found the romance so forcibly shoehorned in that it made me cringe. I'm hoping in the 3rd movie, Tauriel will go: "Look, you're cute but I've got orcs to kill."

That being said, I have seen some very cute artwork of them on tumblr.

I'm hoping in the 3rd movie, Tauriel will go: "Look, you're cute but I've got orcs to kill."

That would be my preference too.

+1

And that Kili will go, "look, you're really glowy but I have a quest to complete" and then PJ lets him do the thing he does in the book without making it about Tauriel.

I still must see this. Every time I see a Hobbit post, I get sad inside.

I have low expectations for the romance aspect and fandom seems to be torn on the matter. Glad you enjoyed it tho, OP. (I would love to see some Tauriel bending to kiss Kili art, I can't lie.)

Awwww, that sounds adorable! (Now I want it too. Yaaay height differences.)

I saw the cutest art of her carrying Kili all badass like, and it was the best.

Still haven't seen the film but I'm glad you enjoyed them, OP.

I'm a bit bitter that a love story was added (not because I don't dig them, because I'm a huge shipper; I just don't think EVERYTHING needs one), but at the same time I love everything I've seen and heard about Tauriel so far, so I'm glad she's been included. A bit of variety is always nice, and she looks like she kicks ass. You can never have too many asskicking elves. (Plus, as I always say, she's ridiculously hot. Like, damn.)

However, who knows, maybe I'll adore them together? It could go either way, and I've seen both sides in fandom.

Me too.

(But I'm a sucker for dwarf/elf pairings to begin with, so...)

SAME.

I was prepared to hate it, but it was actually very sweet. I loved these two <3

Oh my god! The moment they braced my screen I'm like SHIPPPPPPP!!!! Glad you agree

Haven't seen DoS yet because it still hasn't been screened here 8(

Ship away, OP, and don't worry. I'm glad you found something to enjoy. I don't like the ship, mainly because I think it kind of cheapens the whole "Legolas and Gimli being the first Elf+Dwarf BFF pair in AGES", and because I don't like when romance is needlessly introduced in a story.

I'm still fully prepared to give Tauriel a chance, because everyone knows Tolkien books, no matter how good they are... are also a complete sausagefest. Which sucks. A warrior lady elf? Bring it on! But I would have loved if Tauriel had just kicked ass and been awesome with no romance subplot :(

I went in expecting to sigh and roll my eyes at the romancy parts, but I surprised myself by actually enjoying it, even though I knew objectively it was kinda silly and over-sentimental. I think the reason I like the ship is because the characters seem to have the typical gender roles reversed in terms of how they act about their love interest. I can never, ever resist a good role reversal :D

It was corny and seemed more in the spirit of ff.net than The Hobbit, but I kind of loved it and am looking forward to all the tears in the next movie.

I don't ship it. This is because I already have my totally ridiculously AU OTPs for Kíli (one pairing he's with Boromir, the other he's with a Silmaril).

But I went into the movie hoping to find reason to handwave it off, and I did find it. None of the scenes, barring the last one, felt like Kíli was all that interested in her.

However you know what I did come away with? That they'd make an awesome pair of best friends. So now I ship them as besties. My only sadness is that I suspect most of the fandom doesn't.

I went in really neutral about it, and I loved them too. All the comments I'd seen before I went were about how cheesy and shoved in it was, so I was kind of worried, but actually seeing it I didn't agree. Their scenes were such a small part of the plot, and I thought they were sweet.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-29 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I just saw the Hobbit today. I was dreading the 'love triangle' bit, but you know...it wasn't that bad. A bit rushed, but the characters had chemistry. If fic is written, I'll read it.

I don't mind it. As a general rule, I hate romance for the sake of romance. But the characters/actors have chemistry, it's cute.

Yeah, aside from the last scene with them (which I thought was a bit shoved in) I find it actually cute. I also though the scene where they talked in the cells about the outside world was pretty nice.

Otoh I also like to think that Tauriel was Peter Jackson's self-insert.
