Still haven't seen the film but I'm glad you enjoyed them, OP.

I'm a bit bitter that a love story was added (not because I don't dig them, because I'm a huge shipper; I just don't think EVERYTHING needs one), but at the same time I love everything I've seen and heard about Tauriel so far, so I'm glad she's been included. A bit of variety is always nice, and she looks like she kicks ass. You can never have too many asskicking elves. (Plus, as I always say, she's ridiculously hot. Like, damn.)

However, who knows, maybe I'll adore them together? It could go either way, and I've seen both sides in fandom.

I was feeling the same as you and I ended up loving the little Tauriel/Kili scenes. It's only a few moments so it doesn't take up a lot of time, but it's really sweet.

And yeah Tauriel is a complete badass, I really fell in love with her character.

Ooo, I hope I do too, then. It's def a possibility I think, and I'm trying to stay open to the idea of it. Plus, I (unlike so many others) actually loved the Aragorn/Arwen and Eowyn/Faramir moments in LOTR, so maybe they'll have similar appeal. It's good to hear it doesn't take up much of the film, though. A little is okay, but a lot would probably irritate more people.

The Tauriel and Legolas slaughter-fest looks pretty rad from the commercials. Admittedly, this is one of the things I want the most.

I'm not a hardcore LOTR/Hobbit fan (I actually didn't know until recently that Tauriel wasn't even a character in the books and was made for the films), but speaking even as someone who gets irritated by romance subplots in movies very easily, I quite liked theirs. It had a lot more chemistry than any of the LOTR romances (and a lot of movie romances in general) and was well-done, but not particularly over-done. Also subverts some romance cliches, too, so that's always a plus. :)

I have heard that, and it excites me the most about their romance. (One of my favorite moments in the Mass Effect series is when f!Shep throws Kaidan over her shoulder and rescues him.) Well, beyond the fact that they're apparently adorable, which is something I look for and love. The art I've been seeing has really endeared them to me, and though I do think the existence of Tauriel/Kili makes Legolas/Gimli seem a bit less special, it's pretty cool that a lot of fandom seems to be embracing it. Elf/dwarf pairings are right up my alley, and if it isn't overdone then I'm not too opposed to them including it.

Eh, they're the first gay elf/dwarf pairing, then? :P (I actually quite like it when special, one-of-a-kind things are made not-so-special or one of a kind, but that's just me after years of Mary Sue-heavy fandoms).

But they are quite endearing. When they first meet, there's some pretty funny back-and-forth banter, and they do actually spend some time chatting and bonding over shared interests rather than just being some esoteric "love at first sight" stuff. Nothing particularly romantic actually happens in the movie beyond a single (and slightly-delusion) confession of love from one of them - it's just a lot of built-up chemistry, so it doesn't feel forced. :)

I haven't seen it yet either, but I think I'm in the same boat as you. Although I was bitter because I thought she was supposed to be a love interest for Legolas, and for some reason, that just bugged me. But her and Kili...I dunno why, but that kind of appeals to me. Maybe a bit more of the "forbidden" part. Maybe because I've got a weakness for relationships where the girl is taller than the guy.

I really do need to see this movie.

From what I've heard it's implied that Legolas has feelings for her, and she MIGHT return them but Thranduil is keeping them apart. (Which I admit does kind of annoy me, but I think that's because I've always been a big Legolas/Gimli fan and so even if that happens later, it just isn't something I'm interested in.)

where the girl is taller than the guy

Yes! And potentially more badass? (I'm not sure but I imagine they each have their moments.)

There is something appealing about it, aesthetically and otherwise.

Heh. Scott and Barda is pretty much the barometer for my favorite kind of relationship. Nerdy genius guy madly in love with a furious, dragon-punching amazonian warrior woman? Perfect. (Also, Wash and Zoe.)
