(Anonymous) 2013-12-29 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)I don't know, for some it was too corny, but I thought it was very sweet and bittersweet at times, especially when you know how the third movie will end.
spoilers
We need Fili and Kili dying beside each other, desperately trying to hold hands, and Thorin witnessing from afar and crying out in anguish, then Tauriel can have her moment of woe. (I just really like angst, okay?)
But I can definitely see the appeal of it, certainly after hearing about their interactions, even if ~it can never be~.
Re: spoilers
(Anonymous) 2013-12-30 02:42 am (UTC)(link)You mentioned loving Gimli and Legolas, there's a scene you'll LOVE in the movie.
Also, speaking of Durin angst: Kili has a small stone his mother gave to him because he tends to fidget, something to remember his promise by - that he'll come back to her. On the stone, in dwarvish, is written "return" or "both, come back".
DURINS! *shakes fist*
Re: spoilers
Noooo, is the translation mentioned in the film, or was it mentioned in yet another art book or an interview or something? Where ever that is HEARTBREAKING. And completely ironic, lol. Damn you PJ. (Too bad Dis doesn't seem to be in the films?)
Re: spoilers
(Anonymous) 2013-12-30 10:41 am (UTC)(link)The translation is not mentioned in the film,I found it here: http://dwarrowscholar.mymiddleearth.com/2013/12/24/kilis-runestone/
It is mentioned, however, that Dis made him promise to come back, because she thinks he's a bit reckless. Also, prepare yourself for unexpected Balin feels, when you bear in mind what happens to him in the Fellowship of the Ring.
Re: spoilers
Yes! I want unexpected Balin feels! Balin was one of the more fleshed out and likable dwarves in the book, and I was sad we didn't see more of his and Bilbo's friendship. Hopefully there's more of that in this film. (Though I do dig the Bilbo/Thorin stuff, too.)
