I didn't mind the dark and gritty stuff for the Batman movies because you can do that with Batman and it can work, but I agree with the general sentiment. I think the problem is the Nolan Batman trilogy made a crapload of money and so of course DC decided "Hmm, why did everyone like these movies? It must be because they were so *~dark~* and *~realistic~* and *~gritty~*. Let's make all our movies like that now!" And then you get crap like Man of Steel. You don't have to make all of your movies dark, DC, seriously, people will still watch them! Maybe even more people will watch them because they won't be joyless slogs full of glowering that do disservices to the characters they're supposed to be featuring.

MTE. I just wish people would stop hating Nolanverse Batman for that. It's like hating Harry Potter for breathing life into the genre of fantasy/fiction for young people, whithout which there probably would have been no glittery-vampire-twilight-hype. It's like blaming Jesus for the Jehovah's witnesses. It's like... stupid.
