LOLwut? I'm as much of a Canon purist as it's probably possible to be, since I don't really play The Game, but I think the Star Trek: TNG episode being referred to here by OP is actually very inventive, as far as pastiches go. If you haven't seen it, the whole point of the plot is, Data HAS the Canon in his head, and so solves all the mysteries faster than Holmes would/did. So Geordi makes the mistake of asking the computer to create (essentially, though he doesn't use the word) a pastiche that can beat Data the deus ex character for most of the series. It was really a good way to show flaws in Data, as well, because the fact that he had a superior positronic brain, is what did them in. (Almost.)

*respect for the Canon I mean. BBC Sherlock has way too MUCH respect for the insane parts of its fandom.
