Ahh, I live down in Houston where all the oil companies are based, so that's probably why. How'd you like Austin?

True, I'll admit I was thinking more about summer when I wrote that. But hey! At least your summers are awesome?

I wish I had time and money to go back and stay a few more days. It looked like food culture was a big thing, and there were a lot of restaurants I wanted to go to. Oh, and I hated the roads. But that's alright.

It's like my city gets extremely cold or extremely hot. But the bright side is that summer at least gets all the festivals so there's something to see whether it's fringe theater, street fairs, or whatever :)

AYRT

Austin's food scene is...okay. Tbh, Austin is more of an overgrown college town than anything else or that's what it always seemed like for the 6-ish years I lived there. Don't get me wrong - if you want a live music scene, then Austin is the city to go to. It's got what is arguably one of the best live music scenes in the country - and one that's definitely approaching, if not on, the international level. However food-wise, the city you'd want is Houston. A lot of people come to Houston [internationally] for the food scene and you can find just about anything food.

Yeah, Texas tends be very hot during the summer [116 F isn't exactly abnormal], but really nice in the winter since it rarely freezes in the lower parts. But festivals - god, I love the festivals! What kinds do you guys have up there?

/coughs Sorry the tl;dr,btw. The 4 major cities in Texas just tend to be pretty specialized into what they do [more so than normal, anyways] so it's fairly easy to point out which city has the scene someone is looking for. ...Except for roads. Those tend to suck in all of them XD;;

That just makes me think of Edmonton, that Austin is basically Texan Edmonton. Here we have the Fringe, several art walks through the summer that take over streets so artists can make booths to display art, an Heritage festival that's all about celebrating international diversity (but mostly music and food), and a restaurant food tasting downtown, folk music fests, and a bunch of others i can never remember. Basically every week there is at least one thing going on and to do.

With your info in mind though, I'm going to make sure to check out each respective scene the next time I get a chance to visit Texas. I'm not a huge music buff, so Austin will be more about chilling and walking on sidewalks, but Houston will be the main for FOOD.
