Need some fandom ettiquette assistance.

So I've been writing a series on a kinkmeme for a long time now (over a quarter decade), entirely anon, on LJ. The first fic got cleaned up and posted to the kinkmeme's mod account, and a lot of people liked it and even wished there was more. I didn't expect there to be more at the time, but there was - a lot more, in fact (and all still in anon comment fic on the original post in the meme). Just posted the first chapter of the latest installment very recently.

However that first fic was posted, and got all those comments, over two years ago. I thought I responded to these people back then, thanking them and telling them about the new additions on the main kinkmeme, but now it turns out I didn't. The show of the fandom has ended since then (the last season was last year)*, but I am still writing the fic for this series (and have quite a bit more planned out for it).

Due to the two year gap, would it be wise to respond to all the comments on the original fic, thanking them and telling them about the new fic? Or, since it's been so long, should I not bother? Would it come across as attention-seeking that I only seem to be responding to these people now? How awkward would it be to respond to their comments on my fic two years later (and STILL anon)?

Help me, Fandom Secrets, you're my only hope!

* = okay, this is Merlin fandom.

I would just say in your author's notes that you're thankful for all the support over the years, and even if you didn't respond to everyone individually their comments mean a lot to you.

I don't think people are going to go back and check their old comments.

OP

Most of the people commenting on the LJ-posted fic were logged in, so most would get alerts if I responded. Also, most of them would never see the new author's notes because they don't know. The mod account is separate from the kinkmeme, so if they're not actively tracking the story already they won't see it. That's actually what I'm asking about - should I tell these people there is more fic to the series, now, or would it come across as attention-seeking or just plain awkward to let them know when it's been two years since the first fic?

In that case, yes. Just say "Hey, thanks for the comment. I know it's been a while but I thought I'd let you know I'm updating again, in case you're interested." I don't see anything attention-seeking about that.

Ooh. Respond. I was just reading a fic on the Merlin kink meme the other day where the author said it was going to be continued and there were a bunch of comments asking where, but no response. I would've loved to see just one response saying where the continuation was. And, I like when authors unanon because then I can check their other stuff!

Also, can you link me? I'm all about Merlin right now.

I haven't written much outside of this in a while, so even if I un-anoned, most of my stuff would be from years ago.

The fic is here:

Though I am getting them beta'd and put on AO3, soon. :)

HELLO ANON LET ME LOVE YOU! That WAS the fic I was reading the other day that I wanted to read the sequel to!!!! I was like "THIS WHAT I WANTED TO HAPPEN!" and then I told my SO he should read it. (He only reads fic on my recommendation and I only rec fic to him that I really really really like.) Like, pm me your name on ao3 so I can subscribe to you and know when you update, because I will read more. Unless I'm already subscribed to you because you are someone I know, wink wink?
