What's the ratio of fic you write to fic you actually post?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-02 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Like, I know that I write a lot of shameless self-insertion and id-fic that I never have the guts to inflict on fandom...more in some fandoms than others. I think the ratio is at least 50/50 for me.

If I finish it, I post it. Now , the ratio of fic in my brain vs. fic on my word processor is another thing entirely. I've got about five fics stewing around up there that I mean to get out.

That's me too. I have so many I plot in my head but never manage to write down. If I finish it, I'll post it. I'm actually trying to finish something now to get back into it.

Me too. I always post fic I finish.

I don't have an ao3 account, and nobody would give a single fuck about my awful porn so it's probably no great loss.

Hm, I'd say that I post one out of ten fics that I write. A lot of the time it's because the fandom is nonexistent, leaving me with no suitable place to post it (it's just really depressing to put up a fic and get zero comments).

The only fic I've ever actually shown someone else was one of the first ones I wrote when I was about 13 (only shown to my two best friends) and the fic I just wrote for the FS secret Santa exchange which has only been shown to my recipient.

I really try not to post any thing multi-chapter I haven't finished yet, but of the stuff I have finished I've posted nearly all of it. If I'm happy enough with something that I've gone a head and finished the fic, I just have to share it even if no one actually reads it.

10:3 for me I'd say. I suddenly scrap projects a lot. As for the ratio of fics I'm satisfied with how I wrote them and fics I'm disappointed with myself for the way I wrote them, I'd say it's 1/10. It does occasionally happen!

Re: What's the ratio of fic you write to fic you actually post?

It's probably 20 fics to 1 posted. I'm very particular about what I post, so the other 20 are in various states of not-ready-for-posting. Some of them are unfinished, some of them are stubs that are background pieces to the fics I do post.

I write a lot of stuff and I have a ton of ideas in my head but I rarely finish it. If it's finished I'll post it, but I have a ton of ideas that I don't have time to write.

1:1, I've written 5 fics in my life, and they're all posted. Although two of them I have abandonded even though the next few chapters are plotted out.

I post everything. Mostly because I have a really good cheerleader in my girlfriend, and mostly write as fills for anon memes or challenges, so it would be pointless to write and NOT post.

90/10, with the 90% being fic that I keep to myself 'cause reasons.

Not really. I mean, I don't write as much fic as I used to anyways (I am trying to write more though!). Back in the day it was probably 50/50. Last night I wrote a Pearl/Godot/Mia fic that I'm debating if the world should see or not (it was an old kinkmeme prompt).

My written:posted ratio is probably around 50:3.

50/50 for me too, though I used to keep far more for myself some years ago.

I don't post, but that's as much because I'm just getting back into writing and I'd like a bit of practice first.

100:0

I never post anything I write. It's all totally for my own amusement.

I post everything I finish. Now, if we did ratio of fic I started to fic I finished and posted, that's another story...

Re: What's the ratio of fic you write to fic you actually post?

100/0 because I have no faith in my writing whatsoever to share it even on a sock account, but some plot ideas never leave me alone, so I end up writing them anyway.

I draw, so I hope it's okay I post here.

I used to posted my good art pieces on deviantart, so it used to be about 50:1. I don't update anymore, but I'll occasionally do requests in a chatroom that I'll upload to imgur. So it's probably something like 150:1 now.

Late to the game, but I'm gonna add to several others that if a fic is finished, I post it. There are several plots in my head that I haven't managed to write anything for and I have a couple of unfinished ones saved on my hard drive, but every fic I ever finished got posted somewhere.

Re: What's the ratio of fic you write to fic you actually post?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-02 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I used to post everything, hot off the press.

Then I came to realize that posting a WiP into the wild isn't good for me, because then I cave under the pressure of "OMG people want more, will I live up to their expectations, waaaah!".

Now I only post when I finish something. That way, I can just enjoy the posting process instead of stressing over trying to write at the same time.

So right now.. I'd say maybe 20% of what I write gets posted right now. Because those are one-shots/short stories. My epics take a while.
