Re: What's the ratio of fic you write to fic you actually post?

Hm, I'd say that I post one out of ten fics that I write. A lot of the time it's because the fandom is nonexistent, leaving me with no suitable place to post it (it's just really depressing to put up a fic and get zero comments).

This. Oh, so much this.

Writers operate on praise and reviews, guys. DON'T YOU EVEN UNDERSTAND??

No one can praise if you don't post.

The problem is, I write for small fandoms. Even if I post I can expect maybe 3 or 4 comments on something. ...If anything.

I'm fully aware this makes me a terrible person, but it makes me not want to post anything.

Three or four? That's actually not bad for a small fandom. It just seems... petty and ridiculous to complain about not getting enough attention in small fandoms when, by your own words, you do get some feedback.

Wow, so you get comments on your small fandoms and don't apreciate them because it not a number big enough? Really? Wow.

Mte. I'd love to get three or four comments, and I write for a decent sized fandom.

Same here and I consider myself very lucky because I don't only write for small fandoms, I do so in a language that it's not English, so the potential audience is smaller than usual.

But even if that wasn't the case, I don't think I could get why people ignore the comments they do get while complaining about lack of comments. It just doesn't makes sense.

Okay... Assuming I ignore comments is jumping to a lot of conclusions. I don't ignore anyone.

It's the knowledge that if I was writing some generic Hetalia or Avengers slash I would be getting about ten times the audience my fics currently receive which is off-putting to me, no matter how nice those three or four comments are.

Then there are two solutions: (try to) stop comparing small fandoms with bigger ones or move to bigger and active fandoms.
It's better than talk like your existing audience isn't good enough to count.

Speak for yourself.

I post everything I actually finish, and while feedback makes me happy, I don't much care about a lack of it. I don't take fanfic seriously. It's for fun and practice, and just getting something done and put out there makes me feel accomplished. If you can't operate because people aren't praising you then I think you have a lot of maturing to do as a writer. The way I see it, people will care about my stories when I've earned it, but the fact that that hasn't happened yet doesn't invalidate my existence or make me want to stop trying.
