I think in my head, "pop culture icon" = unnecessary quantities of spangles.

In my mind I see a paparazzi-esque picture of a generic dude just trying to cross the street but being photographed anyway. In my mental image, the face is blurred out, presumably because this mental image is not supposed to represent any particular person, just "a guy" who is a pop culture icon.

Despite the male standing in for the generic, the first specific person who comes to mind is Lady Gaga. For some reason.

Miley Cyrus. I just saw her at Times Square's New Year party, and to me, the most current pop culture icon is the most important. Have to stay in the public eye.
