I still don't think it makes any sense to have a racist white woman go against logic and marry a man with features she hates. It seems really contrived to me, and I think there could have been a better way to go about that.

I just said she wasn't super racist. We don't actually know anything about the mother, only that she has a bad relationship with her daughter.

You haven't read it so I don't understand why you're complaining about things that haven't happened in the comic.

She hates on her daughter for not having straight hair, right? That still makes zero sense. "I don't want my daughter to have "black" hair. Oh, I'll go marry and conceive with a black man with black features!"

It's the fucking father who says stuff about his daughters hair and what he says is that she looks prettier with straight hair.

Again, you don't know what you're talking about and so I'm not sure why you're upset about something you obviously haven't read at all in any way ever. You wanna tell me it's shitty after you read the material? Go ahead. That's legit.

So why does she say both of her parents are racist, if it's the father that's really racist?

Here, since FJ's given up, I'll try to explain it one more time: the mother is white and the father is mixed race. Both of them subscribe to a perceived "white" mindset and behaviour. What we can ascertain from the limited time both have been on screen is that the mother loves her husband despite his race and the husband's internalized racism translates to him being just as complicit, if not more so, in the mistreatment of daughter Sal, who comes off as more "black" than son Walky. This leads to the dad specifically telling Sal she looks better with straight hair. Walky himself, as the "favourite son" is just as complicit, explaining to a culturally sheltered girl who asks what race he and Sal are (so as to not offend in the future) that Sal is black while he is a generic beige. He does it out of earshot of Sal, too.

Do you understand? Finally?

Not really, since the comic is still: "She committed armed robbery, but it's not her fault! It's racist parents!"

It is if you consider the (until Willis said otherwise) plausible argument that her criminal past and quick to confrontation nature are a big factor in how her parents deal with her.

Bigotry and prejudice are complicated and people can be racist and prejudiced in unpredictable, illogical ways, and apply their prejudices differently in different situations. The woman could be prejudiced without being a hardcore white nationalist, or w/e.
