Headcanon: Thranduil prettied himself up.

Maybe it's Maybelline.

Not just headcanon, if you accept the movie as sort-of canon.

Thranduil's blemish cream is wicked effective.

Comment OP here

I have not seen the movie and wasn't intending to

is there actually a scene where he advertises his blemish cream?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-03 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Damn u havent even seen it? Thranduil is brill, so odd and eerie and smugly douchey. Hes great fun as an antagonist.

And not blemish cream exactly, but theres a moment where he shows Thorin that part of his face is severely burned/eaten away...so it seems like hes got some kinda elven magic glamour covering the damage usually.

DA

On that note, though, what the fuck was that magic glamour shit about? Tolkien's elven magic isn't supposed to work that way, that kind of deceit seems almost evil. That really took me out of the world they'd so carefully built.

Why evil? Just seemed v vain to me...i can buy elven magics we havent heard much on before...i really liked the effect lol. "DONT U EVEN PLAY W ME U SHORTASS IVE SEEN SOME SHIT OK"

Tolkien wrote extensively about his Elves, so I doubt there are many surprises in store. To each her own, but that moment was random as fuck. Thorin didn't even seem to react, and it was like inches from his face???

Elven glamour.
