Humans fucked up and destroyed life on Earth, usually by either nuclear war or a spectacular scientific breakthrough suddenly going horribly wrong. Enter aliens who want Earth for themselves. No one else is using it right? Wrong! A ragtag bunch of like, five human survivors left ever must fight against the entire alien civilization for their planet!

Extra twist that's also old: the "aliens" turn out to be once-human mutations caused by the disaster that destroyed Earth.

I know you seem to be peeved by this cliche, but I can honestly say I've never heard of something so specific. And um...I'm kind of curious what material is out there that has this premise.

It's a specific plot that seemed to be everywhere all at once in the last few years. Or at least a pastiche of plot elements that are everywhere all at once. Pick any recent sci-fi action movie and you'll probably find at least two of the things in my summary.

NAYRT but based on their "at least two things" criteria, I thought of all of these off the top of my head: Titan AE. Oblivion. Eureka Seven. Trigun (sort of). After Earth. OSC's Homecoming books (I think). Oh and the massively influential but often overlooked table-top game Traveller.
