World crisis that happens, but you only see it happening in the USA/Japan. Probably one of the things I kind of liked that didn't necessarily happen in Pacific Rim?

I'm pretty sure Vancouver gets a dose of kaiju love in the opening sequence.

As much as I enjoy watching my former home (well, greater LA area) get blown up at least once a year, I want more inland disasters. Where are the apocalyptic futures of Iowa, Colorado, and Alberta?!

Oh, I haven't seen Pacific Rim actually so I was just speaking in general.

So what you really want is a movie about the Yellowstone supervolcano erupting.

If so, go look up "Supervolcano". It's good.

Oh come on, major landmarks in other cities around the globe go boom too. (Disaster in Paris? There goes the Eiffel Tower.) But if po-dunk towns get a look-in in disaster movies, it's so their hick inhabitants can be comic relief while the grim-eyed, square jawed heroes spout one-liners and amass more ammo and bigger guns.

But maybe I want my drama to take place in a different country entirely, and then have a climactic scene on said Eiffel Tower? It'd be nice if New York or the Washington president building was a cameo in opening credits, even if the movie was just to star in a po-dunk town.

Also, I liked District 9.

YES. I was ecstatic over that part of Pacific Rim, I hadn't realised how much it bothered me until it was absent in PR and I was so delighted/relieved!

Related to this: When the heroes keep talking about "saving the world" but what they really do is saving (a small part of) the US.
