I just...really question a religion or a belief that is *threatened* by books/movies/fandom/outside ideas. Makes no sense to me at all.

Considering that is 180 degrees from how they used to be, I question it too. A lot of us think it's a test, though. Trial by fire, that sort of thing. (Might be literally fire, if this goes on....) As I said upthread, these people are geographically and theologically far enough away from me that they don't really impact my life negatively at all, so it's not that big of a deal.
