I am fairly certain that "Someone MIGHT be looking at my boobs? Boiling coffee in the face!" is not a reflex that sane people tend to have. Also, what about the guy who lost an eye? His life was probably pretty ruined.

Probably digging myself deeper, but I was struck with the suspicion that she had faced severe sexual harassment and possibly assault in the past, because I can easily imagine that level of reflex being born from traumatic experiences...

IMAGINE is the keyword here. From what she said, all we know is that she assumed that someone was looking (NOT TOUCHING, LOOKING) at her boobs, and she blinded him for it. She said NOTHING about past sexual trauma or anything that would even approach mitigating circumstances or psychological hangups. Considering how much scrambling she did to try and justify herself, it seems really, really unlikely that she would have chosen NOT to mention such a thing.

THIS. Plus, that kind of stuff could be brought out in her defense during legal proceedings. It does not in any way mean that she should not be brought to account for her actions though.

In that case, she wouldn't really be "sane". I agree with you (I'm the anon above who said it sounded like she snapped), but I think she should have had some intense therapy if her ptsd was that bad. And maybe she is in therapy now, if she got a good lawyer who argued mental illness.

Yeah but he used that one eye to look at a woman's breasts, maybe. He doesn't deserve to have it!

Coffee!anon was far more worried about there being consequences for her actions and that she felt almost justified in half-blinding a guy. That is, assuming the entire story wasn't made up.

This - unless you're counting her "omg, he might go blind!" as being understanding... Which, considering it was directly followed by worry about what it would mean for her makes me doubt that's how it was meant.

The anon who caused the incident never stopped feeling that she was the injured party. This is kind of the opposite of "understanding her fault."
