I totally agree!

However, I do admit that I sideeye older fans who write certain types of fic or espouse certain types of opinions that I'd think were just fine for teenage fans. I expect that life ought to teach adult people some realities about how the world works and to not have the kind of ultra-invested hysterical absorption, extreme opinions, and immature black-and-white readings of characters, relationships, and situations that would excusable for teenagers to have. So if I read a bitchy opinionated meta by super-invested fan, I might handwave the immaturity and applaud what good points I found if it was a teenager, whereas I would be raising my eyebrow and feeling more inclined to go "dude, calm your tits" if it was an older fan.

Of course, all this is moot 80% of the time, since it's near impossible to acertain anyone's age when they give it online and a lot of people don't give it at all.
