My dad has been a fan of the Star Trek franchise ever since TOS first came out in the 60's. Some of my fondest memories of him involved us shopping for Trek merchandise and going to sci-fi/fantasy conventions together and admiring cosplayers. The entire family used to always watch episodes of TNG, DS9 and Voyager together.

I'm sure there are other people out there who were introduced to fandom by their parents/aunts/uncles/grandparents. No one is too old for fandom, and age is no reason to limit oneself to enjoying their shows/books/films/etc. the way they want to enjoy it.
