It really depends on fandoms, though. My main two current ones, in one most people are around my age because it's a band that started in the 80es. In the other, I'm the eldest active person on my favorite board because it's mostly liked by teenagers. Now most teens are in their early 20es, but I'm still a good 15 yrs older than most of them. Not old enough to be their mother, which is what saves me from complete embarassment in some cases, I gather!
I don't want to ever find you if they secretly think I'm a loser, though :P

In other fandoms I've been in, there was more diversity. Buffy for example ranged from teenagers to old ladies, no problem. With more ladies than men, though. In anime when I started, 20 or so years ago, it was both girls and boys in their teen or early 20es, students. There are still people from that time, who are now in their 40es and bringing their kids to cons. But there are also tons of teens who are into the latest things.

I can't catch up or bother to get into the new productions though, because having a full time job does mean you have to cut into your hobbies. And because I've moved on to other domains I haven't explored as much.
