I had that, then I came round full circle and realised smutty fanfic/art is awesome.

It's just that it's stigmatised in the larger society so I used to feel bad about not being 'productive'. It's the opposite, really - what could be more productive than being creative?

I have a theory that in 20 years time the current outburst of fanfic/art will have a huge impact on cultural output (hopefully in a good way) because a whole generation will have grown up taking it for granted. It will take culture in a different direction. It's already starting to happen with breakthrough fanfic writers writing commercially, and artists who promote their paid, 'legitimate' projects through their smutty fanart blogs.

Society changes. I'm shocked how quickly it's catching up.
