Diagnosis Game

(Anonymous) 2014-01-04 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a pretty simple game.

You post, and everyone else gets to play internet diagnosis with which mental illness they think you have.

You are a tea-totaler. It's quite a common infliction in countries like England, Ireland and the UK. It's less common in the US but still there are bouts of it, mainly in the South and during the summer.

I get mild headaches when I eat food with high sugar, though sometimes it's just food period. Like I just had two gulps of soda and I feel like there's a rock in my head now.

Am I gonna die.

This won't really solve your soda problem, but at home, try using blue agave as a sweetener instead of sugar or artificial ones like Splenda. My mom can't have much sugar or artificial sweeteners and uses agave, and she pretty much swears by it. Maybe give it a shot?

I'm not a medical professional by any means and I don't know your entire circumstances, and I'm just going off google and knowing some people with similar problems. If you can, go to a doctor. But I also know that's not possible for people, so a suggestion: the only 'diagnoses' I could offer are hypoglycemia and/or dehydration. (Or both).

It seems that sugar headaches - and a lot of stomach-sourced headaches in general - are associated with binge eating. Not just 'eating disorder' type binge eating, but even just people who tend to skip meals and eat more at once, instead of spreading out their intake throughout the day. Depending on your metabolism, even the 'three meals a day' pattern can cause problems. Also, people who tend to 'concentrate' their food intakes tend to drink less water (not always the case).

In short, if you notice this trend in yourself, try spreading out your food intake (more meals, regular snacks, etc) and try to drink at least a cup of water with each snack and a bottle with each meal (or the equivalent thereof - while you probably don't need the mythical 'eight bottles of water a day', at least the amount of water in two bottles is a good way to go, and again, spread out throughout the day instead of chugging a bottle once or twice a day is best).

Again, I don't know the full extent of your life and medical standing and this does sound like something you should consult an actual medical professional about. But if it 'just' a sugar headache, then it's pretty common (just Google it and see), and also rather easy to fix.

Hell, I do too sometimes. Plenty of healthy people take a drink once in a while, or even frequently. Nothing to diagnose here IMO

(unless you're seriously worried about alcoholism obv but that's kind of a different story)
