It's not the badness that makes them different, it's that they are devoid of everything that makes Trek Trek. And on top of that, they're not very good either. If they were either Trek-ish but bad, or un-Trek-ish but good it would be fine, but they're neither.

Ehhhhh I don't think that's fair. I don't. I mean, they're action movies, but they're not unique among Trek movies in that. And I think it's hard to differentiate between being un-Trek and being bad - if they seem un-Trek I think that's probably just a side effect of them being bad Trek movies. I don't think they're so far outside the range of possibilities that, you know, we can say they're fundamentally different.

But that's just my opinion.

Nope. IDGAF about being action or not, that's not what it was. Even Final Frontier and Nemesis felt...in tune with TOS and TNG, respectively, even though I'd say they were technically worse movies than XI or STID. I at least felt they had some fragment of the same atmosphere and ideas, were written by people who actually understood and liked the little things about what made Star Trek so uniquely Star Trek. The big things and the overall plots were fucking terrible, but they didn't feel like they were purposely reversing or misunderstanding everything about what made TOS good.

Which you know, I could have dealt with given the whole alternate-universe thing if the movies had been good. There's a HUGE difference between being bad and being un-Trek.

Eh. Maybe you're right, I don't know.

NAYRT. Aaargggh, Nemesis. Why did you have to mention that?! Every time I have a memory of it, another part of my brain shuts down. That was one poopy turd of a movie.
