Re: Unpopular fandom opinion

I already gave this away yesterday, but:

I find the attitude that some RPSers have, that "If strangers know your name for any reason, your body and sex life/preferences are public domain and we can do whatever we want with them, and you are not allowed in any way to be upset or displeased by this because it is our RIGHT to make porn of you without your consent!" extremely creepy and disgusting.

I have nothing against RPSers who recognize that their hobby is kind of weird and don't make a huge public deal of it, but the people who act like they are ENTITLED to use some actual person's name and face in their porn (written or artistically rendered) and who get offended when someone points out that a) they don't necessarily and b) they should try to keep it out of view of the actual people if they are gonna do it are creeps and I don't care who hears me say it.

No one's face or body is actually in the public domain, and while you may certainly do what you will behind closed doors (or on fandom-only areas of the internet), do NOT act like the actual, living people you're using to get your rocks off have no right to disapprove just because they're famous, or that no one is allowed to find your attitude gross. Especially when you try to force your ship on the actual people and shove it in their faces all the time, even when they are clearly uncomfortable about it.

So much agreement here.

You're not alone in finding that attitude reprehensible. There are probably actors who find it funny or harmless, but also actors who want to seal themselves in a fan-proof bunker and never come out. And this is me being a selfish fan, but seriously, when other fans do shit like that, they make it less likely that those actors/celebrities will do things like go to conventions/do autograph signings/not run like hell every time someone tells them they're a fan of their work.
