Ha, I would be kinda annoyed with a third game that make Tidus' coming back canon; I always have Yuna turn down Anima's offer because I think it's the most fitting ending to the themes of the game.

(Short version, if anyone cares: throughout the game almost every plotline, major and minor concludes with with the characters involved realizing that they need to let go of the past and get on with their lives. Yuna, on the other hand, outright admits (in a few of the chapter 5 area-closing quests most notably, I know it's a big part of how Luca and Macalaneia Woods end, and I think there was one other where it was a big focus) that she knows she needs to but isn't ready to yet. So to me her finally accepting that it's time to move on (as opposed to not getting a choice if you fail to do everything to get the good ending) is the most satisfying and thematically appropriate ending.)

I like that X-2 gives you the option. I'm glad I can always pick the fitting thematic ending or the fairy tale happy ending depending on what I feel like.

I know S-E wouldn't be like Bioware in their attempts to respect canon choice--as much as Bioware is unpopular right now--but I kinda wish they would be.

THIS. When I found out that you can bring back Tidus for real, it pissed me off because (1) it ruins the absolutely fantastic ending of X, which I considered the best ending for a FF ever because it fit and it wasn't happy for happy endings' sake although it was painfully bittersweet but it left an impression on you (and that it made me cry), (2) it ruins the potential of making X-2 a great game instead of having to actively ignore that the perfect ending is a crappy happy ending for happy ending's sake. If it the game was solely about Yuna moving on, it would be lovely (and I wish that they didn't sidelined Lulu, but I disgress).
