Regardless of how you feel about what the man's written and said, I'm not aware of him actually DOING anything like going around stabbing widows and orphans. Is violence really necessary just because you disagree with his ideas?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-05 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes because he's a man

Oh good Rad!fem, I was worried you might have left!

The troll is strong in this one.

OP

...You don't think that's a smug, punchable face? No?

No, of course violence isn't necessary, and a good thing, too, because I don't like breaking rules and also can't punch worth shit.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2014-01-05 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
*shrugs* Meh, not really. I don't find him attractive, but I don't punch people just because they don't meet my standards of physical beauty.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2014-01-05 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
No, no, "punchable" doesn't mean unattractive, it's totally unrelated to attractiveness, it's... you know, if you don't understand what it means I think it's pointless to try to explain, because it doesn't make much -- if any -- sense.

Suffice it to say, I agree with you, real live people should not be persecuted in any way because of their appearance. For some reason this does not interfere with making a secret about wanting to punch GRRM in his stupid smug face.

da

I know exactly what you mean. Some people just have that face and it's not related to anything they've done or said or even how they look.

Suffice to say though YMMV, I don't think GRRM has a punchable face.

"Yes, I know, Amazon Germany screwed up big time and started shipping A DANCE WITH DRAGONS before they were supposed to. I am told that about 180 copies got out before they were made aware of their mistake and shut down shipping.

I am not happy about this. My publishers are furious.

If we find out who is responsible, we will mount his head on a spike. "

I know what you mean. I have the same visceral reaction to James Franco's Oz from "Oz the Great and Powerful" and I've never even seen the movie. I'm sure he's a perfectly lovely actor, but there's just something about his face...

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2014-01-05 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
He does. Like. I enjoy his books and all, but everytime I look at him I just...want to punch his face. I don't know what it is about him. Maybe the hat? With the beard?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-05 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
what if his ideas involve on creeping on 13 year old girls

(Anonymous) 2014-01-05 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, please. He's writing characters in a pseudo-medieval world. Puberty = adulthood in that world. In the real world, in the last century, my grandmother got married at age 15 and my great-aunt got married at 12. When Martin himself starts hitting on 13 year old girls, then you can call him creepy.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-05 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
This.

Perspective, people, ffs.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-06 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Puberty does not necessarily mean adulthood in medieval societies. That's a sign of Did Not Do Research.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-06 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Did Not Do Research on his own, made-up society?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-06 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
now that's just moving the goalposts

next someone will say "there's dragons so anything goes" and the original "that was how the real middle ages were" argument gets lost in the wind

(Anonymous) 2014-01-06 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt

no, i meant when he said he would want to date dany

(Anonymous) 2014-01-06 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
That, and his creepy fixation on her body and describing her breasts all the time.

GRRM seems to have a disturbing interest in 11-13 year old girls getting raped and detailing their bodies, wonder if anyone's ever called him out on that before.

Neither your grandmother nor your great aunt lived in the middle ages. The average age of marriage for a woman in medieval Europe (upon which the world in Asoiaf is based) was 22; in some Scandinavian countries during the same era it was as high as 25. And when noblewomen (and men) were "married" to form alliances at shockingly young ages they did not generally sleep with (or even live with) their spouses until they were much older.

Most people a few centuries ago: still not pederasts.

I really do think you were meant to interpret her creepy inbred brother selling her off to some barbarian horde chief in the hopes of grabbing power as a bad thing. The fact that barbarian horde chief ended up being a way better dude than creepy inbred brother is secondary.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-06 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Er, do you also think people who write crime novels are secretly murderers because murders happen in their novels? Jfc, how stupid can you be.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-06 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
DA

Normally, no. Some authors though, you just gotta wonder. GRRM is one of those, for me.

"There was a time when I would walk the floor at comicon for hours, checking out the booths, visiting friends, buying books and comic books. No more. Now I need security. But there are compensations, of course. The dumptrucks full of money are nice. All that green helps me Do Good, Fight Evil, and Have Fun. (But not dinner)."

I have difficulty imagining people knowing his face that well. But then, I had no idea who the secret was about until I saw transcription anon.
