what if his ideas involve on creeping on 13 year old girls

(Anonymous) 2014-01-05 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, please. He's writing characters in a pseudo-medieval world. Puberty = adulthood in that world. In the real world, in the last century, my grandmother got married at age 15 and my great-aunt got married at 12. When Martin himself starts hitting on 13 year old girls, then you can call him creepy.

This.

Perspective, people, ffs.

Puberty does not necessarily mean adulthood in medieval societies. That's a sign of Did Not Do Research.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-06 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Did Not Do Research on his own, made-up society?

now that's just moving the goalposts

next someone will say "there's dragons so anything goes" and the original "that was how the real middle ages were" argument gets lost in the wind

ayrt

no, i meant when he said he would want to date dany

That, and his creepy fixation on her body and describing her breasts all the time.

GRRM seems to have a disturbing interest in 11-13 year old girls getting raped and detailing their bodies, wonder if anyone's ever called him out on that before.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-06 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
How many times has he describes a 13 year old getting raped?

Dany, Jeyne Poole, Sansa constantly being sexually harassed+ her wedding night with Tyrion in which he grabbed her tit. Jeyne's even included dog rape.

One time is too many, especially when it comes from a sweaty old neckbeard who thinks Dany (a 13 year old girl) "is hot".

So basically one rape described, a character being sexually harrassed (Sansa's still a virgin) and off-screen implications.

Neither your grandmother nor your great aunt lived in the middle ages. The average age of marriage for a woman in medieval Europe (upon which the world in Asoiaf is based) was 22; in some Scandinavian countries during the same era it was as high as 25. And when noblewomen (and men) were "married" to form alliances at shockingly young ages they did not generally sleep with (or even live with) their spouses until they were much older.

Most people a few centuries ago: still not pederasts.

I really do think you were meant to interpret her creepy inbred brother selling her off to some barbarian horde chief in the hopes of grabbing power as a bad thing. The fact that barbarian horde chief ended up being a way better dude than creepy inbred brother is secondary.

Er, do you also think people who write crime novels are secretly murderers because murders happen in their novels? Jfc, how stupid can you be.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-06 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
DA

Normally, no. Some authors though, you just gotta wonder. GRRM is one of those, for me.
