I learned a new word today

Demigirl

"A demigirl is someone who only partially (not wholly) identifies as a girl or woman, whatever their biological sex. They may or may not identify as another gender in addition to feeling partially a girl or woman."

...

Wait, this is a thing?

Yuck. I liked it better when they just said "genderqueer".

Is that what genderqueer is supposed to mean? I've never been able to suss that term out.

I thought this was what genderfluid meant? Or maybe I'm confusing terms. I'm new to this and it is a bit hard to keep up.

Sounds made up to me.

If it has demi as a prefix, it usually is.

That's not true. You have a demitasse, demi-glace, demigod... uh... Demi Lovato...

as if there weren't enough made-up terms for things that either don't actually real or already HAVE names that are perfectly adequate. People's need to be special sparkle prince(ess) snowflakes really do not know any bounds at all.

I like this definition better.

+1

Are you confused or just bothered by the term?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-05 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds fine to me. It's just another micro-label within the whole 'genderqueer' spectrum. If you don't like it don't use it, nobody is forcing you to. If someone finds that it helps them with their own ID then good for them.

Wow, a comment that makes sense.

SOMEONE hasn't encountered the extremely loud and aggressive people who take it as a personal insult if you haven't heard of the special-snowflake brand new identity-tag they just now invented for themselves.

same anon as last comment
Also, twas headcanon for some fictional character, not an actual person's identity.

OK?

I don't actually care if someone identifies as a plush dinosaur from The Land Before Time movies or a gallon bucket of Lavender Mist indoor paint, if it makes them happy.

Re: I learned a new word today

(Anonymous) 2014-01-05 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
The thing is, it wasn't someone identifying as such.

It was a headcanon for a character.

First thought: "Wow, that sounds exactly like me!"

Second thought, after reading comments: "...So I guess the 'genderqueer' DOES apply. I always wondered if not being particularly BOTHERED by being biologically female messed that up."

Re: I learned a new word today

(Anonymous) 2014-01-06 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I have not dipped my toe very far into the genderqueer community so take this as you will, but I've always figured if you were bothered by being biologically female/male then you would lean more towards Trans status. Whereas genderqueer was more "Yeah I'm biologically X but sometimes I feel Y too". Or that's why I've always used the label.
