As someone who's been on both sides of the fence, the additional comments are shitty. Everyone's lives do not stop because someone nearly died and OP needs to take care of themself as well - or you're just going to end up with even more depressed people.

Especially as my take away impression is that OP is young, granted with 2 sentences it's impossible to get a detailed idea. I'm getting from the secret that they realised they need to /show/ their love and support.

But don't you know, if something bad happens you are not allowed to do anything for yourself, especially not something that might take your mind off it for a couple of hours?

Seriously tho, you are allowed to do something fun even if someone close to you tried to kill themselves, you are allowed to continue living your life. You should probably be there for them, but yeah doing things for yourself isn't automatically bad.

I hate this idea that people in support positions are somehow meant dedicate their entire being to the suicidal person and it's ridiculous. They've got their own lives, feelings, energy levels and needs. It helps no-one for secret!OP to sit around feeling bad over their brother, that's a ridiculous expectation and OP is allowed to go enjoy themself.

(This goes for you too after reading the other thread. You deserve your life and to look after yourself. D: *hugs!*)

Exactly!

(Ah, I wasn't looking for sympathy really, I just vented and wanted people to see the other side of the coin so to speak. I am quite fine, and my family isn't all bad, they love me and support me as much as they are able to. And for the most time I am doing well, just like everyone else on the planet.)

I hope that didn't come out as ungrateful? It is really great that you are supportive! And I am grateful for it, I just want to make sure you (all of you actually) understand that I am okay, I don't have that shitty of a life.

Oh I didn't think you were asking for sympathy at all, I figured it was vent + sharing your experiences on why selfcare is important. I think you sound like you've come out all right considering the situation and I'm glad things are working for you (and that your family are loving and supportive irrespective of the situations), I just couldn't find a nice way to phrase that. It still sounds horrible.

But yeah go you!
