Your first instinct to tag them "Marvel Cinematic Universe" was the right one. That's the official title that Marvel uses, and if more fans would just get into the habit of using the correct title, it'd be a lot easier to clean up the tag mess.

Yep I kind of feel that is the correct way, but being a relatively powerless small time fan/infrequent contributor I don't think I can convince people. Tbh this is making me think "fuck it" about fan conventions and I'll just use the MCU tag (plus relevant individual films) in future.

My other thought was 'Marvel' was meant to cover non-MCU like Spiderman and such.

It is. Filtering by 'Marvel' automatically brings up all Marvel-related fics, whether it's stuff tagged with specific comics or specific MCU properties, or non-MCU movies.

'Marvel (Movies)' covers the MCU and non-MCU movies.

'Marvel Cinematic Universe' covers just the MCU.

But if you tag something with, for instance, 'Avengers (Marvel Movies)', it will still come up in any of those filters.
