i was unimpressed by the first hobbit and actively disliked DoS. part of it was because of the innumerable, painfully endless CGI sequences. part of it was because i felt like i'd seen everything it had to offer before, multiple times. part of it was because it just seems...stupid. and i'm bitter because it doesn't fit the tone of the book, for me.

plus, the Smaug's last lines made me actually burst out laughing in the theater. never a good sign.

I feel like Smaug just finished reading the Hunger Games trilogy, because wow, was that a Katniss pep talk to himself.

It doesn't fit the tone of the book. Jackson seems to be making it to be halfway in between The Hobbit and the LotR trilogy in tone.

Personally I think that's a good thing.

I'm liking them so far. And they fit better as prequels to the LotR movies this way.

That's what I think too. It would not work if they did not seem to exist in the same basic universe as the LotR movies, which demands a bit more serious tone than the book.
