Secret 4 - The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (film), shipping, Tauriel and Kíli (characters)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2014-01-08 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a fanart of Tauriel and Kíli from the film "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug". Tauriel is an elf with light skin and long red hair wearing green and brown clothes (tunic, vest, cape, trousers/pants, arm guards, boots), while Kíli is a dwarf with light olive skin and longish brown hair wearing brown clothes (tunix, vest, cape, trousers/pants, arm guards, boots, if warmer looking). They are contentedly hugging each other. Kíli is shorter than Tauriel, so he is resting on her lap.]

After watching the movie, I kept wondering why I fell so hard for this ship (I was prepared to hate it). I finally figured it out:

It's the role reversal. The typical gender roles are totally switched around- It's Tauriel, the girl, who protects Kili and saves his life (multiple times even!) instead of the guy doing all the protecting and saving, as it is usually in movies. Meanwhile, Kili plays the usually female role of having a crush on the hero and swooning after her. Unf.
