Re: training an old cat

The above commenters have some good tips, but the real thing that you're going to need here is to just keep on truckin'. Old cats get pretty set in their habits, it's true, but with enough repetition they eventually get the idea.

It might be a two person job at first- someone to hold the flap open just a tiny bit and another person to wait on the other side with a favorite treat. It might take a bunch of pushes just to make him get the idea that going through it isn't going to kill him. Just keep at it, he'll get habituated to the idea soon enough.
