Yeeeaaah-up.

I mean, I finally just saw it, and the Tauriel/Kili stuff I saw online is why I finally decided to get myself to the theatre. The Hobbit is one of my favorite and most beloved childhood books, but the last movie just didn't do much for me. For that matter, even this one was mostly like, "Well, this is a fun movie. It bears no resemblance to the things I loved about The Hobbit (that is, the quiet, cozy, homey aspect of it, even while away on adventures), but it's enjoyable. And there's much less rabbit-sled."

But guy-who-is-shorter-than-the-girl is kind of one of my favorite things, in relationship tropes.

And turns out, guy-being-the-very-pretty-damsel is another. I really thought, initially, that I'd be annoyed by Tauriel, especially the idea of her having a relationship with Legolas, but no, she comes off as an interesting character with agency. I mean, for what it is.

Wasn't he just so pretty though? Legolas who? Watching him in the jail scene as he gazed sensitively up at her through his shaggy bags with them soulful eyes, I was like, "Yeah, I'd be all action heroine and running off to save his ass too."
