Because he has Issues, and there's a sizable chunk of fandom that has the urge to "fix" guys with emotional trauma. Especially if it results in them being emotionally stunted or closed-off, because then they get the pleasure of making said character open up (directly through an OC, or vicariously through another canon character). It's one of the oldest tropes in fandom.
