I don't get why people brag about how cold the area they're from gets?? I mean, who gives a rat's ass. I'll be honest and admit I laughed at those news reports from california when the temperature was like 50F and the reporters were all in parkas, but even californians recognized that that was kind of funny. but like... -20C/~-4F? stfu, that's cold. unless you're from freaking siberia I think you should probably stop looking down your nose at others.

Seriously! I mean, I like the cold, I'd rather bundle up than try and stop sweating my skin off (and I only begrudgingly closed my apartment window when it was -9F because the wind was freaking my cats out), but I'm not going to laugh at people for finding it cold.

It IS fucking cold. It's also exceptionally cold to people who - like some people mentioned above - are not used to such extreme temperatures and it's not like they can just suck it up when they don't have the gear to keep warm indoors or outdoors.

I am Californian (Angeleno to boot), and we laugh at ourselves all the time. Especially when someone will be shivering in a parka while standing next to a someone in a tee-shirt and short-shorts (which happens more often than you'd think). But that's because we tend to be apathetic to weather extremes but then fall apart at the milder things. Or as one of my high school teachers put it, we still had to go to school when the power went out, our fountain water was undrinkable, and there was a wildfire barely a mile away, but the district would shut down if we got frost and we wouldn't even need snow for that to happen.

I get making fun of people for their reactions to typical weather that isn't being problematic, but weather extremes that are causing damage and death? -_-

Right spot this time I hope

+1! I am so completely personally ok with 30-40c temperatures, but in people who are not used to, prepared or experienced with it? Can be a death sentence! Especially if your home set up is not built for such temperatures and can compound the problem.

I mean ok it's a little funny watching people fuss over 30C temperature while I'm gardening in 40c, but it's only funny as long as they're okay and not being harmed. :/

It stops being funny then, for the cold side too.

Agreed. I'm Canadian, -20 Celsius is average winter weather for us. That doesn't mean it's not still fuckin' cold.
