Not really edgy enough for hell, IMO. It's just a boring attempt at one-upmanship about the weather (that occurs every time there's an extreme in temperatures anywhere in the world), FFS.

That doesn't even rate the waiting list for the outermost circle of hell.

You're being a dickhead, yes, and it's kind of weird that you'd view being from a place where it's cold as something to be proud about, but you're not doing anything morally wrong.

Also, I don't understand your bizarre and incomprehensible numerical systems [this is a lie] but the thing that you have to keep in mind is that America is a massive country with huge ranges of temperature and climate. -20 Celsius is going to be a lot different if you live in North Dakota than if you live in Florida, which is perfectly logical. There's places where people are used to that kind of thing and places where they're not.

So yeah. It's weird, and kind of shitty and incomprehensible, to be like "look at these people freaking out because the weather isn't like what they're used to, FUCKING AMERICANS RITE" but w/e

Ugh, I've been so annoyed at people like you. I grew up in the north, so yeah it's not that strange for it to get to really low temperatures like that. But you know what? In Georgia that is not normal. They are not used to it, they have not adapted for it, it is a pain and a serious problem. In some places housing is not fit for these low temps. People don't have proper clothing or prep for these temps, office buildings are not used to these temps and are having their heating actually shut down because it's too cold.

So yeah, good for you for growing up and living in a cold climate, but maybe use your brain a bit and understand why some Americans are freaking out.

What do you mean, Americans? Here in Minnesota -20 degrees celsius is very mild - we can get to -40 degrees celsius in the winter (and yes, we got colder than that this particular winter). Or do you think that America has a single climate or something?

Yeah, -20C wouldn't necessarily be as bad (though still quite frigid for communities not accustomed to that temperature), given that 0 degrees celsius is the temperature required to freeze water. However, in the US, we use Fahrenheit, where the freezing point is 32, and -20 is a fair bit colder.

Yup, it's so hilarious how poor or homeless people are freezing their fingers off in cities that aren't equipped for -20 degree temperatures because it hasn't been that cold in 100 years. Hilarious, really.

- The temperature with windchill factored in has been reaching about -80F in some parts of the US. That's FAHRENHEIT. In Celsius that would be -62C.

- A few years back Europe got hit with a heat wave that killed a lot of people. The temperatures were hitting 30-35C (or mid-90s in Fahrenheit). Many Americans were shocked by people dying from that (where I live in the US summer temperatures regularly hit around 110F/43C or higher), but it happened for the same reason people are dying from this cold snap here. Buildings in Europe didn't have adequate air conditioning or insulation. Elderly people and children couldn't stay hydrated or cool. Homeless people couldn't find shelter. People weren't prepared.

- Many parts of the US regularly reach these kinds of lows with no problem, because there are already services and systems in place to help. Things like city snowplows/blowers, road de-icers, businesses and charities to help people dig out their cars, car-pooling and bus systems, etc. This storm pattern has hit areas that DON'T have these systems in place and those people are stranded with no way to get to food or medical care if they need it.

eh, you're just douchey. it's like when a bunch of americans and what have you made fun of british people when they had those heat waves over the summer where temperatures were pretty mild compared to what a lot of americans were used to. it was douchey because most of the people being affected by the heat wave weren't used to those kind of temperatures and some people actually got heat stroke and died. similarly, a lot of cities and people in america aren't prepared for such cold weather and it's caused a lot of danger

I don't get why people brag about how cold the area they're from gets?? I mean, who gives a rat's ass. I'll be honest and admit I laughed at those news reports from california when the temperature was like 50F and the reporters were all in parkas, but even californians recognized that that was kind of funny. but like... -20C/~-4F? stfu, that's cold. unless you're from freaking siberia I think you should probably stop looking down your nose at others.

Uh well most Americans are not from wherever the hell you're from, and they really don't have the infrastructure to deal with a once-in-a-lifetime kind of event, so yes it's rude to laugh at them as though they're just idiots who didn't bother to buy a coat for winter.

a lot of people in many areas of the united states are not used to these temperatures and don't come equipped with the knowledge/expertise to handle the problems that come with the weather - anything from cars not starting to salt not working on ice to health concerns like frostbite and hypothermia. so it's really not funny at all, honestly. where i'm from these temperatures aren't uncommon (midwest hollaaaa) but other places that don't normally get temperatures and snow like this are obviously going to be freaking out. people die from this. people die from not knowing what to do or how to be prepared. i don't know why you're laughing.

eta: also yeah some temps were at like -40 degrees... fahrenheit. you can get serious frostbite within minutes of exposure. jesus.
